US-based crypto payment enabler BitPay has launched a service that will give Apple Pay users access to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The payment firm hinted in a recent press release that all BitPay Prepaid Mastercard owners will now use their Apple Wallet to buy items via Apple Pay. This feature now allows BitPay users to buy more items online, over-the-counter, and through mobile apps.

Currently,  users  can deal in virtually all forms of crypto including;

  • Bitcoin (BTC),
  • Ethereum (ETH), and
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

It also supports stablecoins USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD.

Mobile Wallets as a Customer-Engagement Platform

As the Covid pandemic hit hard,  mobile wallet usage dropped despite coronavirus concerns and the demand for instant payment methods. Nevertheless, as the crisis extends to a new year, merchants and their payment enablers now consider mobile wallets a crucial customer engagement avenue.

According to Stephen Pair,  chief executive at BitPay, the payment service also plans to power Samsung Pay and Google in the future.

“Many BitPay wallet owners with the  BitPay card are searching for new avenues and methods to use their crypto for everyday expenses. Integrating with Apple Pay, and later Samsung pay and Google, simplifies  the use of BitPay card as a way to spend cryptocurrency”

The decade-old payment enabler looks to expand its cryptocurrency offerings via its BitPay wallet app which simplifies the purchase and storage of digital assets. Users can also convert their crypto into Fiat as they wish.

Final Words

Bitpay now joins the list of crypto-savvy payment providers. Late last year, PayPal mentioned that its users can now purchase, trade, store their cryptocurrency and even use it to pay for services around the firm’s merchant network. Just recently, Mastercard announced that it will begin taking certain digital currencies in its network this year.
