Methodology: How We Research Payment Providers
By the Best Payment Providers Editorial Team · Updated November 6, 2026
We describe providers using information they publish themselves, we show when we checked it, and we say “Not published” when a provider doesn’t publish a fee. We are moving every page on this site to this standard; updated pages show an “Updated” date and a list of what changed.
Where our information comes from
- Provider websites and published terms for fees, contract terms and the industries a provider says it accepts.
- Card network and regulator publications for rules that apply to every provider, such as chargeback programs.
- Public company records to check whether a provider is still operating, has been renamed or has been acquired.
Our rules for updated pages
- Every fee or term we state links to its source and shows the date we checked it.
- If a provider doesn’t publish a fee, we write “Not published”. We don’t estimate.
- If a provider has closed, been renamed or been acquired, we mark it. We don’t list it as active.
- We don’t make promises on a provider’s behalf, such as guaranteed or instant approval.
- We don’t publish star ratings or user ratings.
- Entries for Bankful and EMB, which have a business relationship with this site, carry a disclosure. On pages for industries they serve, they are listed first in comparison tables.
What “high-risk” means on this site
“High-risk” is a label banks and processors use for industries with higher chargeback, fraud or regulatory risk. It is not a judgment about any individual business. Each industry page explains why that industry carries the label.
Keeping pages current
When we change facts on a page, such as fees, providers or sections, we update its “Updated” date and note the change. We don’t change the date without changing the content. To report an error, use our Corrections page.
